Sony, unlike Canon and Nikon, love to introduce newer cameras before the previous gen models have become old enough. As a result, Sony Alpha cameras are now become abundant offering different features sets - some are affordable and good for beginners while others are tailor-made for Pro users.
Sony mainly has 3 Sony Alpha cameras in the market. Full Frame, APS-C and 1 inch sensor RX Series. Sony has just launched A6100 and A6600 to the market. We already have A6000, A6300, A6400 and A6500 - all are still sold online. All cameras in the A6000 line-up are crop sensor bodies ( APS-C ) and are image quality-wise a step or two below the Full Frame Sony Alpha A7 Series of Mirrorless cameras.
For Beginners - Which Sony A6000 series cameras should you buy ?
The first in the series - Sony A6000 is still one of the best mirrorless cameras ever made and is without any doubt the most sold mirrorless camera in the world. Is it still good enough? If you have no plans to record 4K videos, the A6000 is still a good buy in my opinion. Since it's launched in 2014, chances are you will find it for low prices during sales.
The latest model specially made for beginners in this lineup is Sony A6100 launched in 2019. It is an upgrade to both A6000 and A5100. It has a flip up screen that should help you to vlog and take high quality selfies.

4K Video Supported Cameras
All except A6000 supports 4K recording. 4K at 60fps is supported by none in this series of cameras yet which is a shame. Out of these, Sony A6300 has some severe over heating issues while recording 4K, so if you plan to shoot long 4K videos, avoid getting that one.
Made For Vloggers
Sony A6400, A6600 and A6100 are the cameras that come with a flip up screen so that you can record your own face while vlogging. The latest and the most expensive A6600 offers both headphone jack as well as mic jack while A6400 only has a mic jack input.
For Photographers - Which camera to get
Like i mentioned above, the original A6000 is still a good performer. However, in low light scenarios, it doesn't perform well hand held. A6300, A6400, A6500 and A6600 all have similar image quality, so if your primary use for the camera is photography, you can get any of those. Keep in mind only the new Z series battery with great battery backup is only available on A6600, rest come with NP-FW50 battery. If budget is not an issue for you, i would highly recommend you go Full Frame and grab a Sony A7 Mark 3 to get the best image quality.
IBIS - In Body Image Stabilization
Sony A6500 and A6600 are the only two cameras in the A6000 series to come with IBIS. You can use it for videos as well as taking stills allowing to get blur free, better photos in low light. IBIS allows you to shoot at lower shutter speeds than normal in low light resulting in better photos as the ISO won't shoot out of the roof.
